Today I tell the story of Ikea stealing about $800 of my money and how I filed a dispute through American Express and they did a chargeback to get my money back. The chargeback is a great function of a credit card that can get you your money back when you are ripped off.

This is more about the good amex customer service. I bought a hotel stay through amex travel and it was a non refundable trip. Long story short, the resort town was shut down by covid. I was able to rebook which wasn't ideal but it was better than nothing. 2 months later I get an email from Amex travel saying they got permission finally from the hotel to credit the money back. I was floored, I had no idea they were working in the background still trying to get my money refunded. Amex has the best customer service hands down

I picked up furniture from bobs discounts that was damaged and was told that due to corona they are not accepting returns. How convenient for them. Also don't buy bestbuy phone insurance, complete rip off for 11 a month they charge you 200 to deal with any phone issue, which is what it costs without any insurance at a mall kiosk.

I bought a jacket and sweater from Patagonia or banana republic (I forgot exactly which one) as Christmas presents. I made both purchases separate to get gift return receipts, just in case. Well about 2 months later I saw 4 charges that had been processed on my AMEX credit card I got double charged for both transactions. Well I gave a quick call to AMEX and they fixed that next day. Don't know how they did it but I got my money back real fast.

I ordered some furniture online at the beginning of April, totaling around $2K. The delivery was supposed to come on May 10th and nada. I've been calling once a day since and can't get through to anyone. I even wrote them an email to cancel my order and still nothing. I always loved Ikea and the stuff I bought in the past, but I'm really doubting if I will shop there again.

Way back when I had a crappy secured subprime card, some bozo in Spain charged 5 copies of a video game from the Microsoft Store to my card. I think it was a First Progress card (I closed that turd a long time ago). It totalled $299.95. It took six bloody months to get the charges reversed, with numerous calls, and I still had to fight them for the interest they charged me during the whole ordeal. On the other hand, the last charge I disputed, I told the errant vendor that if they didn't refund me I'd call American Express about it. They reversed the charge right away.

NEVER EVER use your Debit Card for large or online purchases where your information could be compromised – Great video Shifu! If you ever have an issue with your Debit Card, you are basically out your own cash and the bank isn't in any rush to sort out the issue, that is IF they are even willing to. I've spent several hundred dollars for a show/concert tickets that I wasn't able to get into because the venue was filled over capacity. The merchant was not offering refunds. I called AmEx and explained the situation and they really stand behind their card members. It didn't require a a boat load of evidence, just an explanation for them to say I would not be responsible for the charge as the merchant did not provide the service billed. GO AmEX! They are the best!

My ikea delivery date has come and gone, so I initiated the transaction dispute. Kinda hoping they screw up and send me the items anyway 🤣

I totally agree! I charged work for a contractor in the amount of $4500.00 and due to weather, could not perform the work. We asked for a refund and he kept saying " next week" and then "next week." We finally got tired, and suspicious, of waiting and called the CC company. I had a charge back, and a card refund, in literally 5 min. No waiting, no investigation, they just did it. Chase Sapphire Reserve is my favorite card.

I used to work on Bourbon St in NOLA at several strip clubs.. none of them take amex because of the speed and certainty that a customer dispute will always result in not getting paid…

I had exactly the same experience! Huge corporation like Ikea is a crook! I did same thing by calling bank card, which they credit back to my account, but then just today, it got reversed! wtf! I can't wait to talk to bank's customer service when they are open to find out what tha hells going on!

PayPal Cashback MasterCard (all blue) is a GREAT 2% cash back on everything, BUT it fails to load in the Apple Pay wallet. Nightmare getting the cards issuer Synchrony Bank to help! That is after getting hung-up on after 30 minutes on hold. “They” had me call Apple support, but it is/was not an Apple Pay issue… it is a Synchrony Bank “ Digital wallet” issue. I hope to get this fixed… then hope I’ll NEVER have to call them again EVER!

Amex will always go above and beyond. I had an issue with Macy’s and mentioned that I bought with an Amex and they got scared and fixed it.

I had a similar experience with Adidas, placed an order online and it never came. Called FedEx multiple times over weeks, called Adidas as well. Finally got fed up and disputed the transaction (paid on Apple Card). Immediately got a statement credit and the dispute was eventually resolved in my favor

Ikea has the worst customer service. I just had to dispute a charge after being promised 3 times they would refund me. What they do is criminal and would never be tolerated if it was done by a civilian.
