I was so glad that I canceled my Hawaii trip. I was supposed to fly last Sunday. The Governor of Hawaii announced the 14-day mandatory quarantine that Saturday, so I got pretty lucky. I do not wanna get stuck in Hawaii for 2 weeks.
I'm a Hawaii resident, cancel your plans and do not travel here. The state is shut down right now, the governor issued a mandatory lockdown and everything is closed from restaraunts to beaches.
My annual fee for the Platinum came up yesterday. Paused this video to get a retention offer or annual fee cancelled. Nope. The lady was not willing to budge. Will try again Friday.

Called to down grade my AMEX Delta Gold (old one) to the Delta Blue. Got a retention off of $50 statement credit or 5,000 Skymiles ($60 value) after $1,000 min spend in 3 months. Turned it down. Liked the Delta Gold for $29 Skyclub access. So no annual fee Delta Blue card now. Btw, it looks REAL nice. The card redesign is very nice!!!

called today for platinum as my annual fee just came up. They offered 20k MR for 3K spend. In fairness, I probably put less than 3k spend in the past year on the card outside credits.

Staying safe. United States is in global lockdown. We are at level 4 (highest) for EVERY country. No international travel. Buy some masks and wear it when you go out. Stay hydrated. Stay warm. Take Vit D 2000-5000 units per day and Vit C 500 mg per day.

Careful if you come to Hawaii, we only have like <600 ventilation machines. For the whole state. The state currently has 340 intensive care unit beds and 561 ventilators. We would try to help, but we could only choose 561. Pray for the world.

I got got off the phone with Amex about my Amex Platinum Card, I was given an option of either 30k or $300 statement credit with a 4K spend in 3 months. My case was a bit complex though, since I had the Amex green card and I upgraded to platinum last year on may, but my membership renewal is on March, considering that I haven’t been a platinum card holder a full year yet, they still gave me that choice, so I took it since I don’t have any other card to meet minimum spend. At least is something. 🤷🏻♂️
Note: Retention offers are usually offered to people who have a card for 12 months or more. The goal is to retain you as a customer. If your card is less than 12 months old, you're asking to get blacklisted for possibly gaming the system. Do NOT ask for a retention offer if you just opened a card 1-2 months ago and paid the annual fee.
When you accept a retention offer, you're also agreeing to keep the card open for another 12 months per the terms they verbally read you when you accept.
Is it better to get an airline card like (1) CITI Platinum Select World Elite mastercard for American Ailrlines with an Amex Platinum Card to earn free flights or reduced price flights with a hotel room in a unique destination OR (2) is it more advantageous to have an Amex gold and Amex platinum pair OR (3) Chase Sapphire and Amex pair to have airfare and rooms in domestic and International cities for experiences you wouldn't normally have access to???
So I just called Amex to see if I could get a retention offer here is how it went. I told them I was planning on going on a trip to Asia in June, which is true so I was a little worried that I might have to cancel and lose some points and benefits based on what is going on with the COVID-19. My annual statement is coming up within the next month so I asked if they had any perks to alleviate the 550 statement. The really nice gentlemen, said let me see what I can do, he was basically pulling up my account to see how long I have been a member and my purchase history. He came back on the phone and said we really value your purchase history and relationship with us so we will give you a 300 dollar statement credit when I spend 4k in 90 days. I said that sounds great and accept their offer. I think it really depends on how much you have spent and your history that makes them decide how much or if any kind of credit you may receive. So bummed! I just got my Amex Platinum card. I travel weekly for work and still do even with the shelter in place. I just paid my annual fee and can’t really use any of the perks. But hey I am healthy.

I got my reward night extended for 3 months!
How am I doing? My cruise form Japan to Vancouver got downgraded, now cruising in my car down to the local Japanese Restaurant for curbside pickup. We're Amazon sellers with no employees, so playing this by ear, trying to switch to gourmet grocery products until we can continue normal business again. So far business is still at 80%.
No retention offer for the Amex Platinun plus an additional platinum card on the account because I was given one last year but they said I could get one months payment waived but then have to pay everything the following month, so I just dropped down to the gold for now. I can’t travel with this corona virus going on anyway I couldn’t justify dropping $550 + $175 to keep the platinum. $250 for two golds makes more sense to me 🤷🏾♂️
Annual fee for my platinum just hit. Was not offered retention most likely because I’ve already received retention offer last year
So, does that mean we can have two IHG certificates at the same time? 6 month period where we can use them for a 2-night stay?
My certificate expires in July, my girlfriends' in August. Extending them 6 months and adding the new certificates for the anniversary puts us in a position to take a 4 night trip in December, assuming the world hasn't ended. Interesting if that's how it works out.

Hi Sebby: can you do some videos about cancelling trips booked with points? For example, how to get amex or chase or city points back for trips booked in advance with the travel portals, what the rules are for airfare etc.? For example, airfare booked with the business platinum on the travel for example… Any special considerations? Also hotels booked with points with the various hotel chains? Also, what happens with free night crrtificates? If you do not use them… Any strategies for extending the certificates givem covid-19 situation for different hotel chains?

My retention offer today: 30,000 points after spending $4,000 in 3 months. I declined. It was an amazing year with the Platinum but not worth me keeping it for a second year.
Sebby I've been following you for almost 2 years now through my dinky Discover, to a Chase Preferred and Amex Platinum, even got myself a retention offer recently! I think you've been producing really great content! I had a suggestion for your channel that will definitely benefit me but also maybe other people too.
Perhaps you could consider adding time stamps on your videos to denote where you transition from one topic to another. Sometimes I find myself scrolling through the video figuring out where you start talking about a specific topic; I'm may not be as interested in topic as I do another. Just something that may keep your viewers engaged! Keep the good content up.
Here is another data point…i just chatted with a customer service at AMEX and they gave me a 50K retention offer for my plat card. Pretty painless but there was some pushback initially, citing to all the new benefits (wireless, streaming credits) that they recently added. Just be persistent but nice and they should be able to offer you something good!
