To me, the Gold card is the best offering from Amex. The credits justify the annual fee for me. It's the most usable for everyday functioning and earns money on flights which I used before I got a travel card from a different issuer
How does the Uber credit works if you have the Platinum and the Gold card? Do you get $25 total every month in 1 Uber account or do you have to get 2 uber accounts?
Should factor in opportunity cost.
Great video, Ben. Does anybody know about getting approved for the Amex GOLD card? I have an Amex Cash Magnet Card in good standing with scores in the low 700's. Would I qualify?
Ben with you using the Amex Platinum & Gold to compliment each other, are you still doing the same with the Chase Reserve and Freedom?
If you’re a churner, this card isn’t worth it. You’ll be spending to hit SUBs.
Just do the the same thing you do with your uber credit but with grub hub. I haven't missed a credit yet.
I was literally thinking I haven’t seen any of your videos recently and this showed up… without saying anything out loud for the robot overlords to listen to…
The only thing I don’t like about this card are the credits. I don’t find any of them particularly useful to me. I really wish they would revamp them. Cheesecake Factory, Milk, Goldbelly, really. Who really uses any of those places.
Wait, if Grubhub counts for the dining credits, can't you just order your takeout from Grubhub once a month to get the credits that way? Wouldn't that be effectively the same as using your Uber Eats credit?
I’m debating of getting this card or the Capital One SavorOne card for my dining expenses. I’m not sure if 3% cashback is better or if 4x points is. Any advice would be nice 😁
Use the dining credit for a $10 monthly Grubhub+ membership (Amex pays you back). The membership gives you a $10 coupon for pickup orders in your grubhub account. Free chipotle bowl every month
Those numbers look pretty good. Nothing wrong with having an extra 70k points.
New AmEx gold user here, and having used it a couple of months, liking it so far. However, regarding the utility, one has to consider the alternatives and decide the incremental benefit. For example, a simple combo of Savor One and Blue Cash Everyday has no yearly fees, and gives 3% on dining, groceries, gas, popular streaming, online retail. 10% back on Uber and UberEats. Assuming about 2% more you get on average using AmEx Gold over these cards (1% in categories x 2 cpp value), and you use about half of the Uber/dining credits, you need to spend about $125/0.02 = $6250 per year to make this work. For me, it will work as I will probaly use 75% of the credits based on my eating pattern, dining habits, travel,e tc. Groceries is much less for me as I spend only about $2000 on non-Costco groceries as a couple.
Gonna be saying goodbye to this card very soon, I don't use all the credits (no doordash for me) and I don't make enough on the points to make it worth the effective 130$ fee, I have other cards that give me the same or close enough to the restaurant/groceries credit to not make it worth my while. Heard they were going to change this card sometime this year, hope they do so this month!
Hello Ben, where did you find the break down of the spending 🤔. Far the Xtra like Uber and Grubhub I'm utilizing those offers. When you a single dad with three children everything helps 😅. Good video
Where can I find this PDF for my own gold card? I love graphs like these with lots of useful information packaged nicely
I dont get how you can use up uber but not grubhub.
I live in a place that has 0 of the restaurants for the 120 a year credit, Uber eats isn't supported and our only grocery stores are Dollar General and Walmart. The Amex gold is literally useless for me. It sucks I have really good credit but I'm stuck with a Discover IT card because all the "better" cards have zero benefits for people living in rural areas.
My most used card on the daily! It will always have a place in my wallet.✊
I have the chase sapphire preferred and want to make the next card. My fear is that I wouldn’t need to have both of them and just one. Thoughts? I plan on traveling domestically soon. I have the AMEX Delta gold card and have already sucked the bonus from that card.
I hope you can answer this! Not even Amex customer service has been able to answer me 🙁 does Amex Gold give you 4x points dining for food delivery services like Doordash, Grubhub, Uber Eats, etc? And 4x grocery points for grocery delivery like Instacart? Seems like a simple question and I'm surprised they can't answer that, but I don't wanna apply for the card if they all get 1x points 😅
Honestly I have the Amex Gold Card. But the Uber eats credit it’s not worth it I believe. I kept ordering foods from my favorite restaurant and they advice me that I’m paying more for my meal going thru Uber eats just to save $10. I use the card for groceries and restaurants. Overall I like the card.
I'm curious about the gold card but right now I have CSP which I use for dinning earning 3x and I with Amex I use the Everyday preffered with 3x in gas and groceries, and once you reach 30 transactions you'll get 50% double the total points. Would it be worth it to get the Gold with my current setup?
I’m not sure why people use the gold for restaurants when you could just use Citi custom cash. Unless you’re spending 10k + in dining it doesn’t seem like the gold is really worth it
I exclusively use it for food and groceries. It makes sense, financially, with zero credits, if you spend $8333+ per year in those categories.
this card will always be worth it as long as they don't change anything.
Nice job 👏 👍
Grubhub works for dining credit
Cancelled this card more than a year ago, because it became a coupon book. Replaced with Savor One. For restaurants and airlines I use Citi Prestige anyway (5x).
They basically give you $10 gift card for Uber and certain restaurants, however those gift cards expire in a month. This is a big no!
Ben, how did you get 2 cents per point?
Amex: be like , if you hula hoop , with the hoop on fire and jump on one leg and bark like beagle with an overbite. We’ll give you those credits.
Customers be like : 😳…. Ok
It is my number 1 card. Every person should have this card. Its amazing.
This card deserves an Uber One credit
3x on Green to 4x on Gold for dining is not worth it for $100 difference in annual fee $150 to $250 in annual fees. I went on 2 cruises and I get 3X on green as opposed to 1X on gold. I don’t shop nearly as much as supermarkets. I shop over half the time at Walmart supercenters that are not coded as a supermarket. I have the no fee MR points everyday card and the blue cash everyday. Even though the latter is cash back. A $12,000 cap between both or $6000 each even though when is cash back and when is MR points, it’s more than plenty at $1000 a month at actual grocery stores. For Walmart supercenters, I use the blue business plus at 2x points per dollar after $50,000 a calendar year as a sole proprietor which is more than plenty.
