#Jean, Nevada is only about 10-15 minutes from the Southern edge of the Las #Vegas valley. It used to be home to two casinos (Gold Strike & Nevada Landing), however time hasn’t been kind to Jean with one of the casinos being torn down over a decade ago and the other sitting #abandoned on the road from Los Angeles to Las Vegas since last March.
In this Jean, NV tour we’ll take a look at the now shuttered Terrible’s hotel and casino. I’ll talk about the history of this hotel, we’ll look at what it is like right now and perhaps contemplate when it might possibly reopen if it ever will. We’ll also jump across the highway to look at an abandoned gas station and the former Nevada Landing casino site along with its storied history.
Jean is also close to the Seven Magic Mountains art installation and houses the largest Chevron in the world also known as the Vegas version of Buc-ees. A store with not only a lot of gas but some cool things to see and surprises to find. I hope you enjoy this tour!

Sorry for all of the Nevada Palaces. 😂 BTW the Nevada Palace was a real casino on Boulder Highway in Las Vegas. It was replaced by the Eastside Cannery which itself sits closed right now.
For years my wife and I would drive to Vegas from San Diego and our routine was to stop at coffee shop in Victorville called Don's and then stop at Nevada Landing on the way in to Vegas for a beer and it seemed I often had luck at the roulette wheel. One one trip we found Don's had closed. We continued our drive to Vegas and as we passed Jean the Nevada Landing was gone. It was completely demolished and left no traces of its previous existence. To this day we still both point to the area where the Landing use to be as we pass by. We tried the then called Gold Strike but it didn't have the same vibe as the Landing.
Just sad . My dad worked there in the hotel remodeling and now it's closed

First time i came to jean was in the late 70s the only thing there was the prison and this little place called "pops oasis" no casinos then
I use to stop at Gold Strike, eat and gamble. LOVED the coin slots and they were loose, until they changed to video slots and tighten up.
When it comes to places like Jean and Primm I think you nailed it in another video. The market for these places has changed a great deal. With so much Indian gaming in southern California now, these places don't serve the market like they once did. Or rather their market has sort of dried up. I would be surprised if anything closed ever reopens.
I think the planned airport was going to be cargo only airport for Vegas. It isn't needed.
Isn't there a state prison in Jean? When the casinos were open and with the prison I guess there could be critical mass for a housing development. (And then the possibility of a commercial airport)

So sad to hear that Terrible's casino is closed. I used to stop there with my mom on our way to Vegas. She recently passed so I was hoping to go there at least one more time.

How sad to hear that Gold etrike casino is closed!!! Heartbreaking. Had a lot of good times there when we did that big 3 tower solar field at state lone. A lot of us stayed here until i moved to vegas for the duration of that job. Got to know all the waitresses there and got to be good friends. I would even stop there every time i would go to vegas and visit the girls and have a few drinks at the bar. I wonder where they are now. Hope they are working in vegas close to home. And i remember Nevada Landing also back in the early 90s. Had a friend who worked there for a while and then they tore it down. sad.
It is sad to see so many places that have been shut down/closed due to the pandemic – especially when it is a place that has a lot of history and so many stories yet untold. But, with you and others like you, recording and telling some of the stories, hopefully, some of these places will find their way into history and the stories will be retold again and again. Thank you for another interesting and yet wistful story (sniffle sniffle) of yet another piece of Nevada's colorful tapestry of history.
i remember in the late 90s i was at the nevada landing 2 do some gambling on the way home to riverside california and it was snowing there in jean pretty hard!!! good times and i sure miss the gold strike it had coin spitters throughout the casino!!!!! as always keep up the great videos miles to memories!!!!!
I like these videos of the less popular or less known places outside of Vegas. That Chevron/Roadhouse is massive! It reminds me of the world’s largest truck stop in Walcott, IA on I-80. It’s a bummer that these places are still closed. The Primm video was very similar, I wish I would have visited and rode the roller coaster when they were in their prime. In the late 80s and 90s my Mom and I akways stayed at Nevada Landing or Gold Strike. It's a sad day to see one now closed and the other one torn down. So many great memories.

It’s weird to drive past Terrible’s Casino at night and to only see the sign and LED screen lit up while the casino itself is completely shut down.
You said you stayed out there when you were about eighteen because you couldn't stay in Primm. He also said it was during a big flood run 1999. Then you stated your age was 35. Wouldn't that make you around 40?
I used to stay there when I was trying to do business in Vegas. Blissfully quiet though the rooms were a tad edgy. Cheap though and no ripoff resort fee. I figured it would go away after the gaming license was revoked.
My first was 1996. Last one 2019.
I used to work on the road, and on April 29, 1992 the Rodney King Riots started in Los Angeles, and I found myself in San Diego. The problem was, I had to drive through LA to get home to another state, and the news advised to go around the area, so I did. . . I headed to Vegas. . . And just about everyone else in that area did too! I finally pulled off in Jean and went into the Gold Strike to see if they had a room, I found I had to put my name on a list, and wait for no-show's to happen before I could get a room! SO. . . I passed the time at a Blackjack table for HOURS! My game was to not hit anything hard (12 and over), to just let it play. The dealers shifted in and out, and I saw 2 or 3 of them, and one dealer, it was just he and I at the time at the table, said to me, "Will you at least bust one time just for me?" I had a 13, so I let him hit me. . . He gave me an 8! We had our laugh, I got paid, I actually did quite well that night, and lo and behold, after that. . . Registration had a room for me! So, I too have some fond memories of the Gold Strike (I'd wager I could still find my gaming card, if I looked!). I'm really surprised the Nevada Landing was torn out, but that's what they do in Southern Nevada. . . Build and implode. . . Build and implode. . . Build and implode.

What I saw in our grocery store recently, was bags of flavored ice cubes. Bags of lime flavored, orange flavored, pineapple flavored, raspberry flavored, margarita flavored, ice.
FUN video! Thank you. It reminded me of travelling by car with my parents and sisters, on vacation, in the 1970's, and checking out the shops and gas stations, often old and historic, along the highways.
We stayed at Terribel's a few months after the Chevron opened. In fact we were semi regulars there stoping in every few months prior and became friends with some of the staff. I think the steak house in there along with all the movie cars on display including one of the original 1968 Batmobiles were the main draw for us.

Strange how the abandoned utilitarian look and color scheme of the Goldstrike hotel building by itself now looks like something straight out of Pyongyang North Korea. I remember walking in Goldstrike around 2013 because they were giving out free picture frames for new players club sign ups. I won $100 on a 5c Wheel of Fortune machine and I couldn't believe actual nickles started pouring out and had to actually go to the cashier with 3 buckets of coins and black fingers like the old days. That's the last time I've had that experience.
I hope that they reopen Goldstrike. It had the best hotel showers.
Awesome video !! Brought back a lot of memories stopping at Nevada Landing ! Was always a cool pit stop, cool footage of it before it was demolished 🥲 oh man I hope Terribles opens back up sometime !! That road “Las Vegas Blvd” to get connect you onto the strip is awesome ! Never new about it !! Will exit at Jean next time !! And go into Vegas that way ! And that was the old way before ? Cool !

Used to stay at gold strike before terribles bought it and screwed it up like they did when they bought primm years ago.
Last time I was in gold strike was just sold to terribles. They removed slot of machines . they only had 2 blackjack tables. They used the floor space for there stupid movie cars.
The Nevada Landing was the first Casino I ever gambled at I was only 20 on my way to go skiing in Park City Utah we stopped because the sign said $3.95 prime rib dinner couldn't pass that up I was on a budget but I ended up winning $40 on a nickel slot with $0.25 that paid for dinner and a tank of gas that was in 1990
That place used to be really nice I drove a truck over the road for a long time and I used to stop there. The buffet was actually pretty good and very affordable. Then they decided to go corporate Hollywood ruined everything and it just became a dump. Very sad.
