I used your referral link. I don't plan on using the account but the 45 dollar bonus after taxes being a unemployed college kid sounds good.

So I wanted to open a Charles Schwab checking account, and I'm really excited about their free ATM worldwide feature, the only thing though is that they do a hard credit pull, and I'm still in the process of building credit, I don't have any credit scores at the moment, but ordered my first secured card to start building credit slowly.

If I apply for that Charles Schwab checking account + brokerage and they do a credit check while I have no credit, and I get approved (because they don't care probably?) would that affect the credit that I'm trying to build? for example would my first score be 680 instead of 700 for example because I had hard credit pulls before I even had a score? Or it shouldn't have any affect at all since it was before I had any credit line?

Thanks a lot 🙂

I have both and they are both great. I'd recommend to get both. Sofi also offers good personal loan which Charles Schwab doesn't.

ok, since we've come upon a new year(decade) it looks like this card has changed; I've been using this card for years while traveling, saving me 100s of dollars in ATM fees BUT after the first month of January 2020, where is my ATM FEE rebate on the 2 ATM transactions I made??? hmm, how do I explain this? I did the math and I know I was charged something because the difference between the "official rate" and the rate I was given according to the USD's pulled from my account, were $4 and $2. I contacted CS through chat, here's the chat:

"2:38:23 AM : Bruno M.: 01/27 1,000,000 Columbian Pesos X conversion rate of .00298170 = $298.17. No fee was charged. The US dollar equivalent was deducted.

2:39:44 AM : Bruno M.: 01/31 900,000 Columbian Pesos X .00294544 conversion rate = $265.09. No fee was charged. The US dollar equivalent was deducted."

REALLY?? NO FEE WAS CHARGED??

Both of these conversions rates were slightly higher than the "official rate" which is what I believe is the banks work around for these ATM fees. No coincidence these differences were about the same as an ATM fee. Also, the ATM receipts show "no transaction cost'' or "no commission" which turns these transactions or "ATM rebates" into an issue of semantics. Yes, what I'm saying is we're being duped into believing this card has this amazing feature but it only comes into play if the bank you're withdrawing money from labels your transaction as an "ATM fee" or an "ATM commission", which looks to have been removed from their systems vocabulary. CS doesn't claim to rebate bogus exchange rates. Also, during both ATM transactions, I was asked if I'd like to see the fee, I press the "YES" button and I don't see the FEE(b/c there is none) and my transaction is being completed, grab your money, don't forget your card. BTW, these ATM withdrawals were executed at 2 different banks(Scotia and Banco pinchicha) and I've been traveling extensively for the last 7 years and I've never NOT been charged an ATM fee, NOW all of a sudden banks(2 different banks in this case) are being generous and not charging ATM fees when I'm using my US debit card, doesn't make sense.

I'll continue to investigate this; I'll try other banks, but in the past I've always been shown the actual ATM fee on the screen before accepting an ATM fee, so, if this isn't shown to me, I'll cancel the transaction b/c I'll know I'm being given a bogus exchange rate, I suggest you do the same.

Awesome video I was actually looking into both these accounts . I was interested in sofi for a main checking for the interest and atm back . But I was kinda worried about the fdic insurance and how it would work before the money go into one of the fdic banks . But if they have a policy to protect your money before it gets to those banks . I think I’m gonna yet sofi

I've been with Schwab for over 13 years now. I use 2 checking accounts. But Charles Schwab is my favorite for a number of reasons. First of all peace of mind that I can go to any ATM and not have to worry about ATM fees. Domestic or abroad. Second of all I can deposit up to $25,000.00 daily with the mobile deposit. I'm not rich but I have had to deposit several thousand dollars in a check more than once. Plus the customer service is second to none.
