It’s no secret that Chase is missing a grocery category on their credit cards. And this has been a big hole in their credit card rewards for a while. But looking at the Chase Sapphire Reserve, Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Freedom, and Chase Freedom Unlimited, which of these card would be best credit card to add a grocery category to?

I'd much prefer a gas multiplier instead.
I actually think chase would add the grocery category to the CSR and CSP. We are not living in normal times anymore my friend.
I would also love to see CHASE do a 4% back for fuel on one of their Ink cards as well.
3:45 don’t give Chase any ideas Dustin. Please!
Hell ya i would. I'm basically using rotation cards to get 3 to 5X on groceries all year. I'd love to consolidate that all into one card. I was going to go with the amex PCP but if chase drops one i'll be happy to keep giving them my business
Man I hope you are right about a permanent grocery category! I’d probably cancel my Amex Gold card if it’s 4X.
I like the CSP idea. Give us 3x on groceries with CSP, remove travel, bump the AF up a bit, and allow those of us with CSR to get the CSP.
But i like the idea of a Freedom Preferred as well, with an AF. Give us 3x on groceries, and maybe 2x on gas.
The Unlimited makes the most sense. It needs that extra something for sure. 3%!
How about $5 grocery statement credit per month up to 12 months annually for a total of $60 SC for groceries. And add 2x grocery. Or they could just add a 3x grocery category
As long as it was no AF Cashback and at least 3%. True cashback 3% beats 3% statement credit from BCE and I wont have to use my No damn Autopay NFCU More Rewards.
My credit score is 602 with a checking account with Chase nothing all my credit no credit what should I do drive for the Chase freedom credit card or should I wait until my score goes up higher, 700… The man from Indianapolis that's trying to build is credit……🤑😷😷😷😷😷😷🤑
4% on grocery, gas, and guns. No annual fee. Call it freedom murica card
If they make it 3% on grocery and 3% gas I would keep paying 95$ a year
Something that matches the AmEX ED or EDP would be great, where you get an increase of points based off your swipes would be good. Grocery, gas and maybe utilities or phone charges since they don't have that on a personal card
I would be completely ok if chase Add 4x grocery on the CSP and increase the AF. Right now, I use my Amex Gold the most.
If I were Chase, I would add Gas and Grocery to the CSP. Even a minimal 2X multiplier, would add to the overall perception, of a complete arsenal of cards.
Agree, CSP is garbage Tier. Make it $150 and add 3x groceries and 3x gas and it would be decent, but I still wouldn't use it. Knowing Chase 2x for both is more realistic.
Dang a permanent grocery category on CSP would be awesome. Same with a permanent gas station category 🔥 Amex already has both 💯 And Citi did a fantastic job with the Premier revamp 🏆
I’d rather see a 3x on gas added to the Sapphire Reserve since it’s a travel card rather than another grocery multiplier. Ditch the door dash and Lyft crap.
CSP 2*
I would gladly accept a grocery on either the freedom unlimited or the sapphire preferred. Kicking myself that I got the freedom unlimited a few weeks before the one year grocery bonus.
AmEx kind of rules in the grocery category. Great advantage for those of us who are AmEx fans. Don't forget, AmEx Blue Cash Preferred usually add a Blue Cash no fee card for the 3%. With the other benefits of the Preferred card, we average 4% net back after fees.
Would like to see this for the Freedom Unlimited. It could use something a little more special 🙂
I would love a permanent grocery multiplier on at least one of these cards! 🤞Groceries is one of my top categories for spend. I think any of your scenarios would be nice. Another thought is that Chase could continue with the “.5” of the Freedom Unlimited and add groceries at 2.5x with everything else still at 1.5x.
I’m one of the rear ones that have both the CSR and the CSP cards. I would love to have a chase card for grocery. I have been current been spending on Amex Everyday for grocery and use the Chase Freedom went it’s a bonus for a Qtr.
Gotta disagree on this one. Chase is going to have to change the point multiplayer on CSR, perhaps not groceries, but on something. 3x back is just not cutting it for a 550 annual fee
I always wondered why it wasn't a regular category on any of their cards.
I vote CSP -> 2x on groceries & gas
How much longer do you believe they will still offer 5x on groceries on the freedom card? I only ask because I’ll be under 5/24 in November and I want to get these benefits
Gas and Grocery category are what chase lacks. During normal times Amex and Citi rule the big 3 categories of Grocery, Gas, and Dining out.
Amex fits my needs since 95%+ of my life is at home living a normal life. Grocery store, Gas, Dining and Non-Category spend with our without corona. The other 5% or so is when I travel out side of the US. No AF SavorOne and PayPal do the trick. Also still Venture since the waived my AF.
The new CGU – Chase Grocery Unlimited.
Citi Premier [$95 AF]
Pros:
*3x Supermarkets, Gas Stations, Restaurants
*3x Air Travel, Hotels
Cons:
*Transfer Partners not great as Chase
*Statement Credit Redemption
1 TY point valued is less than 1 cent
BAD! Dealbreaker!
Chase Sapphire Preferred [$95 AF]
2x Restaurants
2x Travel
Pros:
*Excellent Travel Partners
*Statement Credit Redemption is
1 point = 1 cent
Cons:
*2x is low
*Supermarkets and Gas Stations missing.
Just to copy Citi and add to CSP would certainly be welcomed. And while at it, CFU and IBU should copy the Citi DC as well and earn 2x on everything as well. Would put Chase back in better competition, at least with the earnings categories.
I honestly agree with all of your opinions and guesses. I really think the CSP would be perfect to add that category to. Let's hope for the best! Take care Dustin and stay safe!
Whether it's revamping the CSP or introducing a new card, Chase should copy the Ink Cash Card: 2x Gas, 2x Restaurants, 5x Telecoms, and 5x Grocery Stores (instead of Office Supply Stores).
I think they might add gas to both CSP+ CSR since can fall under traveling, once data comes for ‘em.
AmEx Blue Cash Preferred has 6X and a $95 fee. A $6000 cap is low but when you hit it you get a net 4.4% back, ignoring the other significant catagories. Hard to see a fee card from Chase with 3X when AmEx already has a no fee 3X. They need to net out better than the AmEx 4.4% otherwise, there better be other perks. Best guess, drop the 1 Sapphire rule and add 6X to the CSP. It's a dead card after the bonus, especially with their recent Freedom upgrades. They could do less if they are counting on portal users, but that's a stretch for the next two years. Until Covid passes, cash is king.
Of course, they could just give up the market to AmEx.
Amex is simply better in the Grocery category, not sure why Chase is lagging on this given the pandemic.
