So if you are not yet an Amex gold member there is currently a great welcome bonus on the card, now if you go to look at the card on Amex’s website you will see a public offer of 75k points for spending $4000 in 6 months. Great offer, you only have to spend $666 dollars a month to get it. So that’s great but there is actually another offer that if only available for a limited time, that most people will probably think is even better.

So if you get referred by a friend, you will see this limited time offer, lets click in to see the full details, so you get 60,000 points for spending $4000 in 6 months instead of 75k, but to be honest 60k is still very high for the gold card which is what I call a tier three card in my 5 tier credit card rating system. But then in addition to that you get a $200 statement credit for purchases at home furnishing stores, or what Amex calls home furnishing stores, some of these I would call hardware stores, but whatever, it is the following merchants

Anthropologie – Home & Furniture, Bed Bath & Beyond, CB2, Crate and Barrel, Crate and Kids, The Home Depot, Lowe’s, Terrain, and The Container Store.

So for me the easiest would be home depot or Lowes, if you own a house there are always little repairs that need to be done. Or you know what spring is coming, maybe its time to invest in a new grill! Like this $300 gas grill, you could get $200 off. But this means the average card holder can absolutely get a bonus of around 30k points, since most people should be able to get one referral, maybe it is your wife or husband, or your cat.
