I don't have any Hilton card, and I am planning for ( Maldives/Bora Bora) later this year. At this rate, it looks like applying for the Aspire card directly is my only option? Since I can't apply for both Surpass and Aspire at the same time (too much minimum spend). I wish I applied for regular Hilton last year 🙁

Hey Sebby that was a good video, as always. I have a quick question for you. My credit history is 9 months old which started at 570 now it’s 700 with 3 credit cards 1.) My credit union card $2,000 limit 2.) My discover secured card $400 limit and 3.) Amex blue cash card $2,000 limit.
My question is what would you do in my position? Go for 1 more card or stay on these cards and try to climb their credit card ladders? Thank you!

Citi Prestige was my all time fav card as I used to book so many fourth night free stays at various hotels including Aman resorts. Sadly now you have to book 4th night free through their crappy website and they only allow you to book the cheapest room category and Aman resorts is no longer accessible through Citi. This took out all the fun and thousands of dollars of savings I had for the past few years. I guess all good things must come to an end. Now I just use it to collect 5x points to transfer to airlines.

I just got my AmEx Plat and the chat rep told me you can add 3 AUs for 1x $175 so you could sell 3 friends lounge access for $60 each

Huge fan of my Ritz-Carlton card as it's my go-to. I generate about 15,000 points per month, use the $300 airline incidental credit for Southwest Airline gift cards, and relish the 50k FNA.

re Aspire: I'd rather work towards hitting Plat at Marriott every year by doing a measly 20 nights. After one has Marriott Plat, pretty much no reason to stay at a Hilton even with DIamond status, especially given Marriott's footprint. With Mariott Plat, you're ENTITLED to a base suite if one is available. With Diamond, you're entitled to the base room that you paid for. It might be worth it if you travel enough that you're sure you will be in a situation EVERY YEAR when there's a Hilton property in a location that doesn't have a Marriott property nearby. The weekend free night is only selling point really, and that's only if you have multiple Aspire cards. In SE Asia, I found service was way better at Marriott properties than Hilton at the top end. If you "earned" Diamond status through body in bed nights, shoot yourself.

I used my Apsire free night at the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills. $650/per night. Got complementary ride on their Rolls Royce Phantom plus $50 to use on room service where we can eat in the room balcony with a wheeled in table

I miss the Visa travel discount, but I'm not certain that the Ritz is not still an S. The travel benefits (trip delay, priority pass, extra cards, primary insurance, as well as minimum points on spend convince me to currently hold on to it. Martiott gold statu, the anniversary night and travel credit prevent me from downgrading.

A few tweaks and it would be PERFECT.

Hey, Sebby – long-time watcher! Great video. Slightly off-topic question about cancelling cards I haven't seen answers to anywhere (including your videos). I have a CSR and I'm eligible for the Sapphire welcome bonus after 48 months. I want the Preferred sign-up bonus – but I've never actually cancelled a card before. Have downgraded plenty (I have the Flex, Freedom, and Freedom Unlimited) so no options for downgrading here. But I'm worried about being iced out or losing points if I cancel then immediately reapply. For someone who is socially awkward, any thoughts on the diplomacy of cancelling cards or even just experiences to share about what it's like? Everyone says you can cancel and take advantage in this way, but no one has ever described what it looks like or if there are risks.

Sebby, have you thought of doing a refresh to this video? I believe the S-tier cards would still be similar, maybe there have been some relevant changes?

If Sapphire Reserve isn't S Tier then Amex Platinum certainly isn't.
