TRAPPED in the UK’s Crazy COVID Lockdown – The Credit Shifu

by YouTube Team

Hey credit warriors, hope you had a great christmas, and we are going to have a story telling episode today. We are in the UK and lots of people have sent me messages on Instagram asking if we are going to make it back or what is going on here, because incase you didn’t know, UK has been in the headlines for a new strain of the ronies.

Now to come here in the first place, there were hoops we had to jump through, in order to avoid not being able to leave the house for 10 days, we had to book a test on our 5th day here, which cost 100 pounds or about 130 dollars per person. That program just started a day before we arrived in the UK so we were lucky to even be able to do that. When we came last to the UK instead of staying in my mom’s house straight away, we rented an air bnb for the first 5 days and then on the fifth day took our test and also moved over to my mom’s house. Would have been better if we were at the air bnb until we go the result, but it was booked after that so we were out of luck. And at that stage we were confident we didn’t have coronavirus.

Then a day and a half later, I got my result….

[clip]

And yeah I didn’t have coronavirus. Strangely though, even though me and two kids got our test results, my wife never got her result back, the company we used is called Screen 4, I emailed them and they didn’t answer, I also phoned them and they didn’t answer. I will be doing a credit card charge back to get my money back when I get home. But that wasn’t the end of it…

Around this time the UK prime minister Boris Johnson, decided he wanted to cancel Christmas! Well not really cancel Christmas, here is what he said:

Crazy thing is in the UK people actually listen to and obey this, in the US people would just say no, and many police departments actually refused to enforce draconian restrictions on Thanksgiving gatherings from state governors last month. But saying that, if you are an older or vulnerable person, you should definitely take precautions and protect yourself, maybe you would want to adhere to these limits on your freedom, each person can make up their own mind.

But anyway, we were here to celebrate Christmas with Grandma credit shifu so, we didn’t really mind that the government was limiting different households from gathering, we were already staying at her house, so we had a great Christmas all together. Since all the stores were closed we went on a lot of walks in the hills around the town and it really is a beautiful town.

But just when we thought things were all settled and nice and we would finish up our trip and go home without incident, something else happened. The CDC decided Boris ruining Christmas wasn’t enough and they wanted to ruin my new year. The US now requires a negative COVID test to return home from the UK. Now even though I already had a negative test, it must be from within 72 hours before travel, so I had to go on the internet and book 4 more tests. The PCR tests I got when I was testing to get released from quarantine took about two days to get the result and even then that wasn’t guaranteed. So I was worrying whether it was even doable.

But the CDC says they accept antigen tests (don’t confuse that with antibody tests, it’s not the same thing), these are quicker and cheaper than PCR tests, so I booked four of those for the whole family at the airport testing center the day before our flight at a cost of 50 pounds each. So a total of 200 pounds or about 250 USD, my stimulus check will more than cover it, if we get a stimulus check….

And that is where we are now. So hopefully we will get back to US freedom soon and I think I won’t travel again internationally until this is all over, if it ever ends….

Guys please share your COVID travel stories in the comments below, if you want to see real time updates on my travel situation which still isn’t over, you can follow me on instagram, at the credit shifu. As always please subscribe, merry christmas and a happy new year and we will see you back in the USA!

Just in case anyone is wondering, we did follow all the things we were supposed to do in carrying out this trip (Rona tests, etc)

Sorry Shifu, huge fan of your channel, but you really seem to have a bit of a blasé attitude towards Covid-19. The lockdown is not about "taking away people's freedoms", it's about trying to save lives. Sure the UK hasn't handled it brilliantly, but looking at things stateside right now, I think they could do with enforcing lockdown a bit more as it could save many more lives.

Why are you traveling dude? What were you expecting during a pandemic? Very bad advice!

It’s not draconian restrictions. It’s a global pandemic. For the knowledge we have, as we learn what is the best way to advance through this situation, it’s some of the best options we have. To restrict interactions with others will restrict infections to others. If you want to discuss the issue with not having economic incentives to stay home, that’s great and an awesome discussion. However, to join the bashing of restrictions set in place to attempt to curve the spiking of the virus yet again, is sadly not something that should continuously be put out there. Yet again, discussions of ways to ensure people are economically sound while they are at home or ways to help ensure everyone is able to get the most out of their holidays are both great discussions. However, you will discuss things and call them as you see, but just a bit more consideration into the reasoning behind shutdowns could truly make a difference in the lives of many people.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Enough people doing what you're doing is exactly why we can't get this under control. I can understand doing some local travel where you don't intermingle with others, but to do an international trip to visit elderly family members indoors – well, that's just irresponsible in the current environment.

With mortality down in 2020, you can never be to careful, especially when food and drinks test positive. We flew from Las Vegas to Atlanta for Christmas, even added a quick flight to FL to buy real estate. Back in February, when we expected an 8% death rate, covid scared the he'll out of me. At 0.01%, it's ok to reassess.

I decided to take a trip to see me sister in New York for Christmas to the New Year. I took the Covid-19 test a week before my flight but when I came I had to fill out a paper which was no big deal. (Questions that asked where I will be staying and have I been exposed etc)

I am glad I traveled regardless of the fact and currently still enjoying my time. Glad you and your family are safe as well.

Happy Holidays! 🥂

We've never lock-down the country for seasonal flu which also mutates yet have for a virus that has a 97% recovery rate for those who get it. However, we've never too old to learn and at 58 I have learned something that I never knew before and that is that the coronavirus is too LARGE to pass through cloth masks which is why we have to wear them in shops.

Love your videos, but you should’ve been smart enough to not travel during a pandemic. It also sets a bad example for your viewers.
