US Bank Altitude Connect – The Connect That Doesn’t Connect – Waller’s Wallet

by YouTube Team

The US Bank Altitude Connect is the newest US Bank credit card. It has a unique benefit that could be useful for streamers, and it also has a great travel and gas multiplier. But while it this cash back credit card has a huge bonus, US Bank makes a huge mistake with this card and it could be costly to the success of this card.

AWESOME INTRO 😂👊 U.S. Bank needs point pooling abilities for 50% more value on the Reserve side 💯

Do you keep your points when you upgrade from altitude connect to altitude reserve in year 2? (Keep the connect 50k sign up bonus for one year and upgrade to reserve to get $750 value on those 50k points?)

I personally don’t like US Bank. Their customer service is terrible from my experience. I think I’ll just stick with AMEX and CHASE.

Yea I agree, this card is meh at best. If you were able to combine your points with the Altitude Reserve, then it would be wayyyy more appealing

The Wells Fargo phone protection COULD be better than Chase's in many cases.

First, Chase's deductible is $50 while Wells Fargo's is only $25.

Second, the Chase insurance is capped at $1,000 per year, while the Wells Fargo insurance can cover up to two claims that each pay up to $600,meaning the maximum annual coverage is $1,200.

The only thing better about Chase's insurance is that you can receive up to $800 in the first claim per year after the $50 deductible is met. In other words if you file a claim for a phone worth $850 or more, you can get the full $800.

For the Wells Fargo $600 coverage, you can claim the full $600 up to twice per year after meeting the $25 deductible. This means if each claim is $625 or greater, you can get the full $600 amount. And you can do this twice per year.

But what people don't take into account is that the value of your phone is not what you paid for it, nor is it the price of a new one. They cover the refurbished price, without tax and shipping. When you open the box, the phone loses hundreds of dollars in value. So that $1,000 phone isn't even worth the $850 required by Chase to max out the insurance claim.

The only people that should use Chase over Wells Fargo are the people that have phones whose refurbished costs are over $650. After the first year a phone is released, not too many people will benefit from Chase.

I don't know what are they waiting for to allow holders to pull all points to the Reserve. There is totally no point on transferring from the GO to the Connect. They even should allow you to transfer from the Cash+!

I can't see using this much outside the welcome offer and definitely not in year two. I wouldn't convert to Go because that card offers little to no value when so many other cards bonus spend Go bonuses. Product change from Go to Cash+ makes sense for me especially since I spend a high amount at Best Buy and it's not super easy to get 5% back at Best Buy.

I'd surely get Reserve before Connect and even Raddison AF card from USB is very strong as a keeper card especially for big spenders who will get three free night certs for 30k spend.

Great video! Hey, can you be the data point for all of us? US Bank has made it very clear that you can't transfer points to the Altitude Reserve in their print material. However, I still have yet to see a data point of anyone who has actually got both cards, and CALLED in to US Bank and specifically asked if they can "as a courtesy" transfer points for you from the Connect to the Reserve. Can you do that after you get your bonus? (I do wonder in part, because I was allowed to transfer from the old FlexPerks Gold to the AR when I called in last year.)

Great breakdown man and I loved the in intro. Maybe if enough feedback is thrown their way, US Bank will allow users to move point to the reserve. Take care Dustin and keep moving forward!

As much as I love the Altitude GO…the Altitude Connect is a pass for me. The Connect doesn't even give a couple airport lounge passes a year. But if US Bank had just flipped the Altitude GO's categories and made the Connect 4x on Fuel, Streaming, and Groceries, and 2x on Dining and Delivery…then they could have had a contender. Especially if they retained the $30 Streaming Credit…and even if they dumped the Global/TSA benefit. Then, once the three Altitude cards started sharing points (as I still maintain they will) the Altitude line would have been a monster trifecta. That would make the GO's Dining, and the Connect's Fuel, Streaming, and Grocery categories shake out to 6x when used through the Reserve. And it would be a fair priced trifecta as well (effectively $170/year). Dining, Groceries, Fuel, and Streaming cover most critical categories, and with the Reserve already having Travel duty covered it would have been pretty comprehensive.

Thanks for highlighting the lack of travel protections. I'm looking for a simple travel card that'll yield rewards for travel I'd book anyway: I'm not interested in aspirational travel or playing the points game. On top of that, the only two other things I care about are travel protections and no FTFs. This card looked like it fit the bill until you highlighted the lack of trip benefits like cancellation and trip delay benefits, which seems like a huge miss for a card focused on travel.

Your review helped me narrow my choices down to the Altitude Reserve (has everything I'm looking for, and the high fee looks easily offset by generous credits) or BoA Premium Rewards (poor point return, but low cost and very strong travel protections for the price).

Thank you for pointing out stuff that some other reviews glance over like trip protection!

This is an apply and cancel in year 2. Not worth upgrading or downgrading as you would lose potential SUBs on the respective cards. Would be an interesting way to develop relationship with US bank and then apply for the Altitude reserve.
