Vegas South Strip Tour Late July 2020: Masked Lions, Motels & Monorails – Miles to Memories Vegas

by YouTube Team

We continue our #Vegas #tour series with a look at the South Las Vegas #Strip! Did you know there are motels left on the Strip? We’ll check out the Travelodge, some other oddities and I gawk over Target’s brand new sign. It is so cool!

The main part of the video involves tours of #MGMGrand and #NewYorkNewYork including their masked mascots and a new pedestrian bridge that whisks people over Las Vegas Boulevard. We’ll also discuss the monorail’s Disney past and get a glimpse at a closed casino. Make sure to check out our other Las Vegas tour videos including several Strip tours, a look at 10 closed Vegas casinos and a #Raiders #stadium tour!

At 19:02 MtoM uses the handicap door, which I use all the time.
They have all these cleaning ladies cleaning the slots etc, etc, but the entrances to the casinos are manual doors which hundreds to thousands of people grab the handles to get into the casino.
Only about 5 people will play an individual slot machine each day but hundreds will open the manual door, which is great for transferring viruses.
The solution is to have automatic doors at the casino entrances.

Curious. People who visit Las Vegas 2-5 times a year….have you considered moving to Las Vegas?
If you like your friend's aquarium tank (Las Vegas) so much, wouldn't you want your own aquarium too?

Thanks for sharing your memories along the tour! Arcade is way cooler than Marshall's. Neat about the original monorail cars.

I enjoyed the video. These places look pretty hectic in design. Only issue I had is that it's jarring when you turn the camera so close to the wall or let stuff get directly in front of the shot. Other than that, great video.

its amazing the difference you have simply crossing the street near the travel lodge where you started this. you have this high end shopping and hotels on one side then the travel lodge and and cheap souvenir shops on the other side.

2:20: Finish your thoughts … "The giant Coke bottle and mm's have been here since it was built, and I think it's about the only things." I'm not sure what your were expecting, because when you build something, it is hard to have something else in the same place unless you tear something down. what else were you expecting? A hotel? I'm not learning anything from your comments. Also, you start at the Travelodge near Circus Circus on the north strip, then suddenly are south strip … not obvious to people who have not been there about 10 times. Good audio and steady cam.

What is the social distancing on the roller coaster when you are right behind someone with yelling, slimmy dribble coming out of their mouths with the utterance of "shiiiitiiiiittttt!" spraying and flying back toward you at 35 miles per hour?

One very interesting fact about the nationwide massive economic shut down is that no one has proven or shown that it really is working. Really. News media talk as if it is common knowledge that it is working. I don’t think so. I am an ER physician in California and the shut down here does not correlate with the incidence on Covid. Covid is bad but it is not Ebola or Marburg or similar horrible viruses. It is worse than a novel influenza but not that much worse. We would NEVER shut down for influenza.

Thanks for posting this, the history of the MGM was really interesting, and the New York neighbourhood, was my favorite place to hang out in Vegas. I wish I'd visited Vegas when the hotels were all super themed.

It great the bridge has been added. Thst area was a bit behind the rest of the strip..now The Sahara intersection needs all 4 to accomodate Strat, Gift Shop, Pot Store, and the new constructs..

I remember the Wizard of Oz theme. We went to the magic show inside. I've stayed at MGM a few times and even though I think it's a beautiful place, it's just too damn big!

Really enjoyed your memories and the history of the MGM Grand. Very cool that you and your dad used to work there. It's a special place to me as it was the first big Vegas resort I stayed at back in 1997. I was 20 years old and with my grandfather and brother. I have a vlog on my channel that has some video from that trip. It's cool to visit places that have changed so much and to remember what it used to look like. I feel that way about the Disney parks. I think that's why I love Vegas and it's history. So many changes over the years. Thanks for this!
