In this video I’ll go through all of the numbers including visitor volume, average room rates and revenue per available room plus we’ll look at how many people drove and how many flew in plus I’ll show you why locals casinos are doing much better than expected!

Worst thing that ever happened to Vegas: Running the mob out of town in the early '80s. The casinos were FAR better managed then, customers were treated better, comps were looser, etc. Also – if the mob were still running the town, the ridiculously extreme lockdown measures taken by Sissylak would either not be happening, or he'd be resting comfortably by now in one of those "holes in the desert" that Joe Pesci talks about in the movie Casino.

Gaming rev is the most interesting part of this, to me anyway. – When comparing July 2020 to August 2020 don't forget that July has a holiday and August doesn't. The fact that visitor volume is down 57% YoY August to August and gaming revenue is only down 25.1% is astonishing. Illustrates or underscores who is not visiting Vegas, business to business which doesn't gamble. I heard that gaming revenue had been less and less important for Vegas properties over the years. You certainly can see that from these numbers.

Gaming revenue down the least? Are the slots tighter? More "whales" in town? Sports book up? Very interestng..

Yeah Yeah Yeah, this is down, that is up. We are in the middle of a Pandemic, that fact that there are people that are coming to Vegas is phenomenal. Vegas has been turning itself away from gambling for a very long time, they have kept reinventing themselves, from a family, children friendly place, to an Adult only. They are now trying to become a Sports Center, so if it wasn't for the Pandemic, Vegas was situating itself as more than Gambling. Although the reason I go to Vegas is to Gamble, enjoy the good food, and stay in a Great Resort.

I think more than the convention traffic it is the lack of international travellers really bringing down the mid week numbers. Although the conventions bring in a lot of revenue they only account for around half a million actual visitors. (Actually , 657,000 in 2019)

October numbers may be interesting, busiest wedding day of the year was 10/10/2020 and even with the pandemic every place I know people at was packed. Interested to see if that 1 days has an impact or if the month is slow overall despite it. October is usually the busiest wedding month.

Low hotel rates and crime.
Back in 2007 – 2010 hotel rates were much lower than today, but I don't remember any excess crime news.
But YouTube wasn't huge like it is today, so maybe hidden news is good news.
I hit Vegas several times during the Great Recession period and the street demographics were much different.
Today there is a much higher percent of gang types than in the past. Even the Vegas sheriff has talked about the increases in gang types on the Strip. Another shooting at the Miracle Mile shops over the weekend.
Vegas won't come back until a vaccine is in full use.

Hi Shawn! The numbers are getting better. I was actually there last weekend the day after Park MGM opened. I was surprised how busy the Strip was that weekend! The hotels were still not as busy with booked rooms because when I walked through MGM to and from The Signature to get to the Strip, the hotel although somewhat busy, was not like pre-pandemic numbers. So, having said that, it is just going to take time. Covid is nothing to play around with. I am cautiously optimistic. The glass is half full. CAB 😊
