I’ve been denied both the chase freedom and freedom flex, not sure why. My score is above 730 and I’ve never missed a single payment nor gone over 30% utilization in the last 12 months. I thought it was an entry level, tier 2 card…?

I started with a low limit Capital One years ago. Then I got an Amazon Prime Chase card with a $5000 limit. I then got a Discover It card with a $7k limit. I then got a AMEX Blue cash preferred with a $10k limit. Eventually I got an AMEX Gold NPSL card….I just got a Chase Saffire Preferred and for some reason only got approved for $5k…which is baffling to me.

I got my first card at 19 (Apple Card). Used that for about 15 months to build up my credit before getting the Chase Sapphire Preferred. Timing worked out well as I fulfilled almost all of the spending requirement for the CSP 60k point welcome bonus when i bought an engagement ring for my soon to be wife 😁Your videos have provided me plenty of good advice, looking forward to getting the Amex Gold (or possibly CO Venture) as my third card next year.

Hello! Excellent video; I'm currently starting my journey of credit cards. As you mentioned, I'd like to apply for my second credit card, a Chase card; I currently only have one (Discover). You mentioned the chase freedom unlimited. Can I also consider the Chase freedom flex? Because I'm thinking between the unlimited and flex.

Actually the 5/24 rule is that you cannot have 5 hard inquiries(!) in the last 24 months. It does not have to be open accounts. It can be 5 inquiries that were all declined, so you have no open accounts in the last 5 years, the 5/24 rule would still apply because it relates to # of inquiries, not the # of opened accounts.

Is it 5 opened accounts or five hard inquiries in the 5/24 rule ?

So the fact that I'm on card number 16 while still building means I'll never get a Chase 🤔🤦🏼‍♂️

Don't you have to have a year of history before you apply for a Chase card?

5/24 is for open accounts? If I got declined a card will it count?

discover it has no upgrade path, but it does not need one. 5% rotating categories, no annual fee. You are already good to go…… No need for upgrade. You care about upgrades when the card you are applying for has negative attributes you want to get away from.

TLDR, start with discover it. Its a tier 2 card you can get with a tier 1 credit score.

My first credit card was a Discover It Secured Card. I got it back in 2017 and they upgraded me to the Discover It Chrome Card 6 months later. I currently get 2% cash back on restaurants and gas stations, 1% for everything else on it, and have a $4100 credit limit on it. I used it to build a 793 FICO score. I'm certainly due for an upgrade. Do you think an Amex is a good choice? Or is there something better for me?

I wish I had found your channel sooner! I've been going on this credit journey on my own and have a variety of cards without rhyme or reason.

Can you clarify 5x points on travel. I recently try to call AMEX to book a flight and the representative said that you can only get 5x if you book through the website. I did not believe this. Most agents say you do get 5 x, but 2 representatives say you do not get 5x if you call them to help you book a flight. What do you think is the answer?
