There are many different American Airline credit cards to choose from. But which is the best American Airline credit card? There are Citi AA credit cards and even Barclay AA credit cards. There are a lot of similarities between them, but it’s the little differences that makes some of these better than others

Yo man….Why didn’t U do this video 2 months ago ? LOL! I went Citi AA ! LOL! Oh well, I’ll get the wife 2 grab the Barclays next year and down grade the Citi AA 2 a Citi double cash. Thanks once again 4 the info !
Thanks for the awesome video Dustin, any chance you’ll do the same for United and Delta cards?
Is there a downgrade path for the Barclay Aviator Red to a no annual fee? Or need to cancel it in year 2?
@wallerwallet how did you get the aviator red for third time? Cancelled and applied right after ? How long before cancelling??
Great vid as usual Dustin!
Now, here is a trick for your viewers I heard from someone else, to get a 'intro bonus' on the Citi Double Cash, which doesn't directly have one. You get the Citi AA Platinum select, with the 50K AA miles bonus and no AF for the first year, then downgrade after Y1 to the Double Cash…;-)
for all these free checked bag cards for different airlines, do you have to book the flight with that card? or can you get that free bag even with booking with points or through chase portal?
I was never a big fan of Citi because they were the first bank that ever declined my application back in the college. Three months ago I received a mail offer for 60K so I decided to give Citi another shot. One thing I confirmed with Citi customer service is that you have to book flight with the card to have free check bags, unlike Amex Delta cards where flights can be booked with any card.
At what point in the points and miles game do you recommend exploring the Barclay's AA Aviator Red card?
@Waller's Wallet – Where can I get that spinning globe on the table?
I have the Citi Business Platinum Select. Looking for another AA card soon. May have to try the Barclays again since they denied me about 6-7 months ago.
I have the Barclay's Red and it's been great,I'm going to Iceland on it in 38 Days.
I got rejected by Barclays AA Red card a month ago. Too many new inquiries. I wanted that easy sign up bonus 😭
Great reviews!
I have a theory that the AAdvantage cards are all mediocre when compared to those offered from say Delta and United because it's split between two issuers. Barclays was the issuer for U.S. Airways pre-merger while Citi was Americans. There probably is a contract or stipulation which probably dictates this arrangement from the merger. As a result of the two issuer arrangement, the cards can't really outdo each other. Perhaps in the future, one of the issuers can fully take over the portfolio and release some decent cards.
Perhaps finally add American Airlines as a transfer partner to one of the major points ecosystems *coughCitiTYPcough*. The closest we got to AA being transfer partner (well sort of) was with the Citi Prestige from 2013-2017 where a TYP was worth 1.6 cpp when redeemed with them. Plus the card also granted Admirals Club access. RIP to that card x3. First for the nerfs which was it's fall from grace, then the removal of travel protections in 2019 which was one foot in the grave as a premium travel card. Now it looks like it won't be back since it was quietly retired this past month. TPG has written what amounts to a eulogy for the Prestige.
I hadn't thought much about AA cards but I may be traveling with them more often in the future so this could be useful information. Though for the most part these don't seem like good long term cards with the annual fees. Some of the credits are nice, but for the most part they're for overpriced things I wouldn't pay full value for. Still, it may be worth churning them for the year 1 bonuses and then using the benefits for that year. Thanks for the useful information.
Love my Citi American Executive. I used to pay for Admirals club but upgraded to this card to save the $200
I saw people recommending thomas davy here and I need cc so I thought of trying him and it work, am so happy right now for meeting him on time thanks
Thanks for the tips.. I will get the upgrade from red to silver and get the 25 bucks credit.. I am about to be EXP. And I will have access to Admiral L. For free. I don't need to get CITY C. ..
Thanks
I'm not too familiar with American Airline. Informative video.
How churnable are these cards?
Can you get the bonus on the CITI Advantage business card and also the Citi advantage personal card in the same year?????
Good info- as my home airport is an American hub it’s about time I got an AA branded card
Does the recent announcement of AA becoming a transfer partner for Citi change your strategy for earning AA miles. It would seem a "Citi trifecta" would fit very nicely now.
How long did it take to get that 60k miles with the AA Barclay's red card? Just got approved and made a purchase but ready to travel. 😁
Good work brother….
How do AA miles translate to actual flights? Like, how far would 60000 miles actually get you? That’s the only part I don’t really understand about mileage and points cards. I’ve always only done cash back up to this point.
Hi Waller, I have just applied for the Barclay Advantage Red card, and just now saw the Advantage Business card. I now that for business cards the credit card companies pull the personal credit , in my case for the Red AA card Barkley pulled my Barclay Advantage Business card a week after ?
Barclay Cards won’t move on their interest rate of 24.99%, so I applied for the Citi Platinum Card and received a rate of 15.99% along with 50,000 Bonus Miles. I believe this makes the Citi Platinum Card much better than my Barclays Red Card.
