Wanted to apply to amex platinum card , but since I close two accounts 3 years ago, they still hold it against me, before I submit my application it says that I can apply but I won't get the bonus for closing too many accounts. Should I call amex ? Or should next year?. A part me says don't even bother.

Hey sebby I went to apply for the Amex Bonvoy Brilliant and got a pop up saying I wasn't eligible for the welcome bonus. I have the Ritz-Carlton card and put in my marriott rewards # while applying.😭
Got the Amex Gold last month, and I've been trying to pull the 100K offer for Plat ever since. No luck. Finally gave up trying and pulled the trigger on the 75K Resy offer. I definitely think now is a great time for Amex cards because we're seeing some historic high offers PLUS 6 months to hit the minimum spend instead of the usual 3 months.
I would say that I believe I recently benefited from their KPI's. A while back I applied to the Gold but AMEX needed further review before saying yay or nay. However, this time around I applied and went for the 60K MR/6 months offer and was approved in less than one minute! Some may be asking, "Well why didn't you apply the same reasoning for the AMEX Platinum?" I couldn't justify the annual fee for that one versus the Gold. I couldn't see the "effective rate" being less on the Platinum versus the Gold with the travel and expenses I foresee making in 2021. Thanks, Sebby! Thanks to your reasoning I went for it and this time around, it worked!

For a long time I’ve held off on the Amex platinum because. But they made me an offer a couldn’t refuse. I never thought as an existing customer (Gold in 2018) I’d ever get the 100k offer. Plus the 10x on gas and groceries is the cherry on top. The Marriott offer is so tempting but I’m not sure how often I’ll be traveling next year.
In this hobby the I’m seeing the best time to apply is when the bonuses get really juicy, that seems to be when cards get a refresh, new cards come out, or when the economy tanks. Bad time to get airline cards, that’s self-explanatory
Got denied fir the Platnium & gold with a 740 fico smh so nota gonna get any1 of these fir at least another 6 months. Hopefully they still have good signup bonuses by then
